Prince of Fjords joins the team
Prince of Fjords, a dual winner at Gøteborg Galopp in Sweden, where he has been successful at age two and three, joined Annike's team last autumn. Now four, this good looking son of Prince of Lir has finished in the first three in seven of his nine races to date, and his current handicap mark is 83, making him a really interesting player for 2022. He won a 1400-metre maiden on his second start as a juvenile, outclassing seven rivals to score by ten lengths under Paco Lopez. Prince of Fjords had three subsequent winners behind him that day and it was clear that he was a runner somewhat above the average. He raced just once more as a youngster though, finishing second to this year's Danish Derby winner Iron Butterfly over 1100 metres on the dirt track at Øvrevoll.
Prince of Fjords was gradually finding his form in 2021, running ninth, fourth, second and second again on his first four starts of the campaign. This progress set him for a win over 1600 metres in Sweden in July, when he ran out an easy 5-length winner, beating Sophie B, who was 4 lengths better than the third placed horse, Cutie. With these results, Prince of Fjords has earned 239,874 kroner to date. He made his racecourse bow over 900 metres and has since been running over distances ranging from 1100 metres (his only start on dirt) to 1600 metres. His two wins were gained on good and good to firm ground. His dam, the twice raced Eccellente Idea, is a daughter of top class miler Excellent Art. From a good family, Eccellente Idea is a half-sister to prolific stakes winner Off Limits (Mastercraftsman), whose highlight was a win in the prestigious Matriarch Stakes (G1) over at mile at Del Mar in California when she was a five-year-old.
Prince Of Fjords is a half-brother to Udaberri, a three-year-old in training with Sean Woods in England. Udaberri is entered to run in the 8.30 at Wolverhampton on March 29. Like Off Limits, this colt is by Mastercraftsman. GS 220328
